Use

The item must be placed in a 4 x 5 meter stainless steel metal container. It must be handled only by the Item Specialist on duty. Once assembled and set in the indicated position, the levers and mechanisms of the item will be manipulated in the correct permutations to activate its anomalous elements. After use, it must be returned to its container and back to anomalous item storage. From ██/██/2020 the item must be removed following the Deluge Protocol. Use of the item can only be carried by Gamma Level personnel.

Report

It is an iron and steel artifact. It is partially similar to a weather vane, with four spear-shaped ends pointing north, south, east, and west. Besides this, the only other immovable element is a vertical eye-shaped decoration on top. The entire rest of the artifact is comprised of levers, handles, tubes, discs, antennas, and other exemptions that can be moved and repositioned throughout the artifact. All parts of the artifact are engraved with glyphs of unknown meaning and purpose. When the item is fully assembled, the entity from now on designated Apex-Grey Maelstrom will manifest.

2
The Apex-Grey Maelstrom entity during item activation in SPEAR mode.

Apex-Grey Maelstrom is a dense nimbus cloud-like entity composed primarily of hydrogen, oxygen, and ice crystals. It is maintained at a moderate ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure and is capable of modifying its molecules to take on a more solid form at will. It can absorb any type of matter and its volume can grow in size in correlation with the amount of matter it absorbs. The entity will always manifest itself over 100 meters from the Item, regardless of the position it is in.

If the levers, tubes, and other elements on the Item are placed in a certain position, certain basic commands can be given to the Apex-Grey Maelstrom entity. Each of these permutations has been given a code name for exclusive use by the team that wields it during the application of the Deluge Protocol.

Key Name Effect Notes
MONSOON The cloud increases in size until it is just over 1.5 km long. The cloud will then release a torrent of rain with winds of 80 km/h. This will continue for as long as the permutation in the Article is maintained. used by Insurgent personnel to cover organized attacks and decimate enemy forces.
BOLIDO The cloud changes shape like in the MONSOON permutation, but now releases a shower of hail, with the ice crystals being 50 cm and pointed in shape. Used as an aerial attack and counterattack element in enemy excursions.
SPEAR The cloud grows even larger and takes on a dark hue. It will begin generating electrical bolts that generate over 20 billion joules of energy that will directly strike any living being below it and its surroundings. If there are no living beings, it will attack the nearest structures. This is the first permutation in which the entity specifically attacks living beings. It is only used for attacks on large scale enemy forces. Insurgent personnel must be away from the surrounding area by at least 2 km when this permutation is activated.
CAPE The cloud condenses itself but without losing its mass. It then begins to drop a thick fog that seems to move of its own volition, covering all the surrounding terrain. Used as a camouflage method to cover large attack groups.
ARDOR The cloud takes on a grey-greenish hue, with several thunderbolts shining within it. A few seconds later it will release an acid rain with a Ph of ███ capable of melting metal and asphalt. It is only used to eliminate enemy combat units, rarely used against enemy personnel. This is mostly due to changes in wind direction that can lead to collateral damage to Insurgent personnel.

Those handling the item or within 15 feet of it will not suffer the effects of the displayed anomalies, being protected from the elements by an invisible barrier of unknown origin. It is believed that this is designed on purpose so that the effects of the cloud do not cause collateral damage to the item itself.
